SCES offers a range of health and wellness programs that enhance the quality of life of older people and younger people living with disabilities.
A Matter of Balance Program
Healthy Eating for Successful Living in Older Adults Program
Simple Cooking for Your Health Program
These programs are available to senior residents of Somerville and Cambridge. There is no course fee for the Matter of Balance Program. All the other programs have a $10 course fee (waivable for hardship) due at registration. Transportation is available. My Life, My Health: Chronic Disease Self-Management Program
Diabetes Self-Management Program
These programs were developed by researchers at Stanford University Medical Center and have been proven to help people just like you. Cost: FREE. To register or for more information, contact the Age Info Department at 617-628-2601, ext. 3151 or info@eldercare.org.
A Matter of Balance Program
Designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels. Sessions include discussion and exercises to improve balance, flexibility, and strength. Sessions are held once a week for eight weeks (2 hours each).

Healthy Eating for Successful Living in Older Adults Program
For older adults who want to learn about the health benefits of good nutrition and physical activity. The program promotes heart and bone health, and helps prevent chronic disease. Individual calorie needs are planned using portion control and MyPlate. Each session includes exercising and promotes walking. Participants receive an exercise DVD. Sessions are held once a week for six weeks (2½ hours each).

Simple Cooking for Your Health Program
Learn to cook healthy low cost meals that are simple to make and taste great. The program focuses on meals that are heart-healthy, low in saturated fat, and high in fiber. It includes demonstrations and food sampling. Sessions are held once a week for six weeks (1½ hours each).

My Life, My Health:
Chronic Disease Self-Management Program
This workshop is for adults who are living with the challenges of one or more chronic conditions. Participants will learn several techniques for dealing with issues such as pain, fatigue and difficult emotions. Each participant will recieve a copy of the book, "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions," and a relaxation tape/CD. Sessions are held once per week for six weeks (length of each is 2 1/2 hours).

Diabetes Self-Management Program
This workshop is for adults who are living with Diabetes. Caregivers are also welcome. Participants will learn several techniques for dealing with issues such as stress management, avoiding complications, and monitoring your condition.
