Volunteer Needs

Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services is currently in need of the following:

Medical Escorts:
Our Medical Escort Program is in need of volunteers to accompany clients to and from medical appointments.  Volunteers without a car, as well as with a car, are eligible to volunteer in this program.  SCES provides the transportation means for our clients.  Individuals with a vehicle are able to assist those individuals contacting SCES for transportation to a medical appointment.  It is a very flexible program which can work for many schedules.  A volunteer needs to be available during working hours as most appointments run on workday schedules.  If you can help by volunteering in this program, please contact Marie Mazzeo at 617-628-2601 x3051 or email mmazzeo@eldercare.org.

SeniorPet:
Several shy but friendly and interactive cats were rescued from a client who went into a nursing home.  Their veterinary care is up to date.  If you have a cat who could use a friend, one of these cats would be great.  We would like to place these cats in a loving home so that they are not euthanized.  If you are interested, please contact Marie Mazzeo at 617-628-2601 x3051 or email mmazzeo@eldercare.org.

Brown Bag:
We need two to four strong volunteers to help unload food from the Greater Boston Food Bank truck for the July 20th Brown Bag (Time: 8am to 9am, Place: 165 Broadway in Somerville).

Volunteer Program News

Boo and Baby found a home
One of our seniors passed away and her cats (Boo 15 years old and Baby 2 years old with urinary issues) were desperate for a home. A nice woman contacted us to adopt them. Boo and Baby went for updated exams and went to their new home on June 10th.
