Caregiver Heroes Recognized at Community Event
Over 200 people gathered at the Somerville City Club on October 17th to honor local heroes who have made outstanding efforts on behalf of senior citizens. "Serving Seniors: A Community Celebration" recognized Cambridge and Somerville residents who have dedicated themselves to helping older people maintain their independence and well-being.
According to John O'Neill, Executive Director of Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services, the event was an opportunity to reflect on the important contributions made by professionals, volunteers and advocates who work to improve the condition of older people in Somerville and Cambridge.
"Today is a celebration of people who refuse to turn their backs on their neighbors," O'Neill told the crowd. "It's a celebration of people who aspire to create a more humane community."
