Volunteer Position Available
If you have a couple of hours a week to spare and would like to make a big impact as an advocate for nursing home residents, consider becoming a long term care ombudsman. As an ombudsman for Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES), you will join a dedicated corps of volunteers who help residents improve the quality of their lives while protecting their rights to privacy, dignity, and responsive medical care.
“Working with nursing home residents is extremely rewarding,” said Jenni Caldwell, SCES' Ombudsman Program Director. “You will receive a great deal of love and appreciation for every small thing that you do. It's a great feeling to know that you are making a real difference.”
All volunteers receive special training to prepare them for their work as resident advocates. After completing the three-day certification course, volunteers make weekly visits to local nursing homes, talking with residents and giving them an opportunity to discuss problems or concerns. There will be a training for the program in Lexington on March 10, 11 &12.
For more information about the volunteer position, call Jenni Caldwell at SCES, 617-628-2601.
