Money Management Volunteers Needed

The Money Management Program of Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services is seeking volunteers to assist low-income elders with basic bill-paying tasks. If you enjoy helping older people, can balance a checkbook, and have three to five hours a month to volunteer, this may be the right volunteer opportunity for you.

The Money Management Program, which is jointly sponsored by AARP, Mass Home Care and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder affairs, offers free assistance to income-eligible elders who are having trouble managing their finances.

Money Management services are confidential and are designed to help people with physical disabilities or memory problems, elders with poor vision, homebound elders, and those with no family or friends to help them with bill-paying tasks.

“Often, the assistance of a trained and insured Money Management volunteer can make the difference in an older person's ability to remain living independently in his/her own home,” says Al Solomon, Money Management Director. “When unpaid bills pile up due to an elder's declining ability to manage financial tasks, eviction and institutionalization become real threats.”

We offer training at a time to suit your schedule, and your volunteer hours can be arranged at your convenience each month. To find out more about the Money Management Program and how you can help, please contact Al Solomon at (617) 628-2601.
