Health and Wellness

Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services offers the following health and wellness programs that help older people and people living with disabilities lead healthy and independent lives.

A Matter of Balance
Falls just don't happen, they are preventable. Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.

Volunteer Coaches Needed!
By volunteering to teach two classes per year, Matter of Balance Coaches help participants develop individual strategies to prevent falls, become more confident about managing falls, teach strengthening/flexibility exercises for balance, and assess their environment for risk factors. All materials and training provided by Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services. Anyone interested should contact Marie Wilson at 617-628-2601, ext. 3051.

Want to Participate?
This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls and improve your flexibility and strength. You will learn to view falls as controllable and make changes to reduce fall risks at home. Classes are held twice a week for 4 weeks for 2 hours each. Anyone interested should contact Deb McLean at 617-628-2601, ext. 3172.
